Our Purpose
If you are thinking about training as a counsellor, you are probably already someone who understands what it means to really listen to another person, and how rare that is.
The Counsellor's Path was founded on a special conviction: that the quality of counselling training matters, not just to the trainees who receive it, but to every person who will one day sit in front of them as a client.
That is why we take training seriously. And it is why we built a centre where you will be taken seriously too.
We hold high standards of self-awareness, integrity, ethical practice, and humility. Not because we want to make training hard, but because the people you will work with deserve a counsellor who is genuinely prepared for the privilege and responsibility of this work. We believe that good intentions, without self-knowledge, are not enough. The depth of your training is what makes the difference, and we are here to provide it.
We believe counselling is deeply human work. It requires not only skill and knowledge, but emotional maturity, ethical commitment, and the kind of self-awareness that only comes through genuine personal development.
Our role as a training centre is to help you develop these qualities within a framework that feels supportive, containing, and professionally grounded - so that when you leave us, you are not only qualified, but truly ready to practise.
What to expect as a student
Training as a counsellor begins with something that can feel unfamiliar: turning your attention inward. Before you can truly hold space for another person, you need to develop a steady relationship with yourself, your reactions, your assumptions, the things you carry into a room without realising it.
That process starts at Level 2 and deepens at every stage that follows.
Level 2 is where the foundations are laid. Groups are small and the learning is experiential. In small skills groups you will practise listening without trying to fix, sitting with someone in their experience rather than redirecting it, and learning to explore someone else's frame of reference. An introduction to theory begins here, alongside a weekly reflective journal that becomes a constant companion throughout your training. This is where you begin to understand yourself.
Level 3 is where that understanding deepens. Theory becomes more substantial, and skills practice grows in complexity and subtlety. The reflective journal continues, and with it the invitation to go further inward.
Level 4 is where everything comes together. You will begin your client placement during the first year, bringing your training into real practice. Theory becomes rich and in-depth. And the process group, a weekly space dedicated to exploring what is happening within the training group itself, becomes part of the curriculum. Difference, rupture, and repair are an ever-present part of human relationship and In the process group you will learn to manage and work through this rather than avoid it. This honest relational work is not separate from your training - it is your training.
The development you'll experience through this training goes far beyond a qualification. It's personally enriching, professionally transformative, and - we believe - one of the most worthwhile things you can do. We take that seriously, and we'll be with you throughout.
What makes us different
We are not a college. We are not a platform. We are a small, specialist training centre — and that is a deliberate choice.
Whoever you are coming to this, and whatever your background, you will be known here. Not as a student number, not as one of hundreds of learners passing through a system, but as an individual, with your own history, your own strengths, and your own learning edges. Our tutors are not just teachers. They are practising counsellors who are genuinely invested in your progress, who notice how you are developing, and who care about the kind of practitioner you are becoming.
We hold high standards because the people you will work with deserve nothing less. And when you qualify, we want you to carry what you built here into your practice, not just as a line on your CV, but as a foundation you can stand on.

Abi founded The Counsellor's Path in the conviction that how counsellors are trained matters deeply, not just to the practitioners themselves, but to every client who will one day sit in front of them. She has been in clinical practice since 2015 and has been training counsellors since 2017.
Her approach to training is shaped by both sides of the therapeutic relationship - as a practising counsellor but perhaps even more from her years as a client.
“Having experienced counselling as a client, I came to understand both its profound potential and its inherent responsibility. Therapy can be deeply transformative when practised with humility and skill — and unintentionally harmful when good intentions are not grounded in self-awareness.
The Counsellor’s Path was created from this conviction - to train practitioners who recognise the privilege and responsibility of their role, and who practise with professionalism, humility, self-understanding, and ethical integrity.”
