About Charné

Charné is the Level 4 counselling co-tutor and an experienced counsellor whose work is grounded in the belief that people are naturally resilient, capable of change, and driven by a need for connection and meaning. She brings this conviction into the classroom — creating an engaging, supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to develop their own therapeutic voice and confidence.

Background

Charnė began her career as an educational psychologist, where she gained valuable insight into human development and mental health. However, she found herself drawn away from psychometric testing, diagnostic frameworks, and prescriptive recommendations. Instead, she was motivated by a desire to connect more deeply with individuals and to become part of meaningful, transformative change in their lives. This led her to transition fully into counselling and psychotherapy.

Teaching

At The Counsellor's Path, Charné teaches on the Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. She brings a particular focus to practice management, ethical considerations within the profession, and understanding common mental health problems — drawing on the depth and range of her own clinical experience across multiple settings and client groups.

Her teaching also explores a range of therapeutic modalities, including person-centred and psychodynamic approaches, alongside different models of conceptualising mental health. She encourages students to think critically, to integrate theory with practice, and to develop a flexible, client-centred approach to their work.

Counselling Experience

Charné has worked as a counsellor, educational psychologist, and psychotherapist across a wide range of settings — including NHS GP surgeries, criminal justice services, educational institutions, addiction recovery programmes, and private practice — in both the UK and South Africa.
